What I read from Ray Lane's statement "Last time we came in four (U.S.) cents under market. I don't expect to surprise the market this time," are
1)They are not going to give THAT KIND OF NEGATIVE SURPRISE this time.
2) The surprise mentioned in his statement is not the surprise (positive) street is looking for. If it is a surprise (positive or negative) is determined by street, not the company.
3) No company will be foolish enough to claim a surprise before earning instead of giving number.
4)On stock market, a promise of no negative surprise is a very positive sign.
