I didn't see any future in digging up the variety of reasons why unions are needed, the present good they do, and then fight off the complaints against them (some quite deserved, by the way).

I had no interest in ragging on the sorry performance of unions. Nor argue that there are never any positives. My argument has been that unions, even when operating ideally, are a net negative economically for all players (except the professional unionists who draw salaries from them, that is) in today's economic reality.

I was surprised you even started this conversation with me.
Typically, you make some slick assertion, I ask for a rationale, we go back and forth a couple of times without ever getting to the beef, you close it by stating the obvious, that we disagree, I end up with no insight into your rationale, and I conclude once again that you're shooting off "talking points" to use the term that Bob introduced to Chinu's great annoyance (slogans, memes, whatever you want to call them) and have no rationale to offer. Tired of that. Sometimes I simply choose not to engage. This time I engaged but pre-empted your close out. <g>

I'll admit, though, that I continue to be curious about how it could be that you have no rationale to offer, particularly on a topic about which you could be expected to have some background. Perhaps it's just that you don't see unions primarily as an element of the national economy as do I but rather as an element of a class war. Or perhaps it's that we just have different discussion objectives. Mine, as always, is to get insight and understanding re differing perspectives while you show no curiosity. An alternate interpretation of your missing rationales that I have been incubating is that you just aren't interested in analysis and your assertions are intended primarily to expeditiously mark you turf. Which leaves us at cross purposes.

When data are limited and the mind remains curious, speculation ensues. <g>

I hope you don't find that last bit too "personal," that my intent was clarified to your satisfaction when last you did.
