hey doug,

i enjoyed the article. the paragraph on 'mismatched system files' (or 'version conflicts' as i always see them referred to) was interesting.

"MISMATCHED SYSTEM FILES: Installation programs
can replace existing Windows .dll files. You've probably
seen a dialog box during a software installation that
said the program has found a later version of a file on
your hard disk than the one it is installing. If you chose
to install the earlier version, programs expecting the
original .dlls can get confused and bring down the
house."

i usually accept the default choice when asked about version conflicts, but i know that there are some occasions when it's the other choice. i've found that careful perusal of the readme file or release notes prior to installation will always provide valuable instructions about this very subject.

:)
