Paul, >>>Bad is a relative word.....But in the light of the overall semiconductor market , Intel's reduced earnings should look FANTASTIC compared to their competition.<<<
How about comparing Intel's earnings against the Internet stocks (eg, YHOO, AMZN, Lycos, excite, et al.)
Of course that is not a fair comparison. Intel has to compete against Kurlak, Inc. a wholly owned (?) subsidiary of ML.
In all seriousness, it is time for Intel to control it's own destiny within the investment community.
It is time for Craig Barrett to step up and take charge. With all due respect to Andy Grove (his place in history is secure as are his own finances), but it is time for him to really step aside and let Craig Barrett take over.
For starters, Craig Barrett has to beat earnings this quarter - even if he has to borrow from the next quarter. He then has to address the investment community and inform them that he is now in charge and in control and will henceforth provide accurate guidance to the investment community. He has to convince the investment community that he is the most knowledgeable person in the semiconductor industry. He knows more about it than anyone.
He will over time reveal his vision for Intel - what his goals and objectives are for the short and long term. There will be no surprises. Intel will set realistic targets that will be beaten each quarter.
Intel's future is at least as bright as any Internet company.
Stop Kurlak NOW.
