As far back as I can recall Bob Thompson would not only demonstrate the rear view mirror w/spd but also what looked like a computer screen. It was just white numbers on a blue background, but you could see it from any angle unlike LC screens and it didn't disappear in the glare of the sun or overhead lighting.

I always knew that displays and ebooks were applications they were pursuing with licensees, I just didn't realize, until the lawsuit that what I had seen that day in the early 90's was an EPD. They also had it at the annual meeting I attended in the late 90s. I remember talking with the employee from the lab who showed me more colors on it. They had it in the far corner of the room so could see how bright it was.

That's all I recall but I already determined that it's the work done by REFR's lab scientists that dealt with the issues of current and the scattering/alignment of the particles that was the center of the lawsuit and that is what is covered in the three patents. I do remember that the particles clumping was an enormous obstacle to overcome.
What I had never known was its application outside of epaper and displays. I found that part interesting as well. Haven't read the patent they added but I assume it has to do with the new items mentioned in the Amended Complaint.
