Tobias Why did Intel give Samsung
money. ($ 500 mil i think) They apparently used it to compete with intel. Is there some special strategy in this???

Yes, I noticed that also. Samsung has long had a relationship with Digital/Cpq regarding Alpha, so I don't think it was a surprise to Intel.

Intel indicated they wanted to ensure a continuous supply of high-speed RAM. If I am not mistaken, I believe Intel was investing in building a factory with Samsung.

The tech sector has numerous cases where companies are customers, competitors and suppliers to each other.
