So the recurring "becuase" that we see might reflect a typing deficiency rather than a charming idiosyncrasy? My world is slowly being shattered.

I was a fast typist in high school and almost made the Interscholastic League typing team for our school. The final slot on the team came down to a girl and me, and we had a type-off conducted by my teacher. The girl, who was in another teacher's class, scored higher, and I could tell that my teacher was emotional when she told me that the girl had won and that I wouldn't get to go to the district contest. I felt badly for her but I was relieved because it meant that I would get to go fishing with my brother and friends that weekend. But the next day the teacher said that she had arranged for me to go on the trip to help carry the typewriters and so forth. I couldn't bring myself to tell her that I really didn't want to go, so I made the trip. It turned out our team, five girls, won the district contest and were recognized on stage at our annual awards show. I was most relieved I wasn't on stage with the girls -- never would have lived it down with the guys.

Our class had its first reunion after thirty years and the typing teacher was there. I asked her if she remembered having to tell me that I had lost out on making the typing team, and she said, "Yes, I do. It broke my heart."
