He is the Joe McCarthy of our times. There are similarities, but he doesn't directly have government power behind his attacks. He can't compel people to testify, or vote for laws. He has less ability to ruin people's lives or apply force to them. He is however an example of what he attacks, a highly partisan person who uses over the top, nasty, political rhetoric.
