I wonder if the outcome of elections would have changed had voters known in advance that:

a.) before he was elected, Ronald Regan's associates were offering Iran advanced weapons in return for keeping the American hostages locked-up until after election day?

b.) before he was elected Nixon's advisor Henry Kissinger had been negotiating the details of our surrender in Viet Nam with Ho Chi Minh's foreign minister?

It's good that our government knew these things.

I think it's unfortunate this information wasn't also shared with voters.
