tim, my last consulting with HP was only 3 yrs ago.
You never answered the question. how much is burden and mat'l.
ELM is just the most powerful planning and simulation tool in existance today. Hp finally got it..the lug heads<gg>
The european plant is not going to be HP's savior.
I implemented cpq's european plant in 1987 , Singapore plant in I forget when<g>and Germany followed.
i didn't put in the cpq distribution center in Netherlands.
I was on the planning from the bottom up of all these and know well cost etc. None of them were done becuase it's cheaper in Europe or singapore.
I agree that printers are very complex and I only buy hp printers.
I've purchased maybe 1000 of their laser printers.
The lastest of which was their fastest laser on the market.
Hp did make progress two qtrs ago.. shall I quote it or do you know it. I was the person that showed HP how to run their compnay off HP3000's. you don't remember it but they use to have huge amounts of amdahls and IBM's to run their compnay in the 80's.
I can assure you. I know more about hp than you and you work the compnay.<gggg>
So, if a pc is 1% labor and 4% burden..how is cheap labor in europe going to help.???
and if cpq and dell already have european sites. how is hp's going to give them an advantage. Hp is building the plant for two reason.
one they got a tax holiday out of it.
two, the eec said you build a plant here are forget about selling pc's in europe<gg>

Here is the ELM defintion.
