I'm not sure of your question, so tell me if I'm answering the wrong one.

Silverman had (has) a private email GIFS group. One of the messages (posted earlier) attacked Tod as the evil n'er-do-well (from whom Silverman would save his babies' collective ass).

Unfortunately for Silverman, emails that go to several people are not that easy to alter. Everyone who received that mail would have to edit their copy of the email in the exact same fashion for Tod to pull off a cut-and-paste stunt.
