( BW)(TRIKON)(TRKN) TRIKON TECHNOLOGIES FILES 10-K

Business Editors

CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 1997--Trikon
Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:TRKN), an international supplier of etch
and deposition equipment used to manufacture semiconductors,
Thursday announced the filing of its Form 10-K.

Within the "Management's Discussion and Analysis of Financial
Conditions" section of the Form 10-K, Trikon noted that it believes
the semiconductor industry is still experiencing a downturn which
continues to result in rescheduling and pushing out of orders due to
diminished product demand and production overcapacity.

Each of Trikon's operations have been and will continue to
be dependent on the current and anticipated market demand for
integrated circuits (ICs) and products utilizing ICs that are
produced by semiconductor manufacturers. The current weakness in
demand in the semiconductor industry, and any continuation of this
weakness in the future, is likely to materially and adversely
affect the company's business and operations.

Trikon believes that the downturn will continue through at least
the third quarter of 1997. As a result, the company anticipates
reporting lower sales for the first quarter of 1997 than the fourth
quarter of 1996, and anticipates incurring a significant loss during
the first quarter.

Trikon Technologies provides a broad line of advanced
manufacturing systems that are used for three of the four major
processing steps in the manufacture of a semiconductor device:
etch, physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition
(CVD).

The company's corporate headquarters are located in Chatsworth,
north of Los Angeles. Manufacturing is conducted in Newport, Wales;
and Chatsworth. Trikon operates worldwide through wholly owned
subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France and South
Korea.

Safe Harbor Statement: Except for historical information
contained herein, the matters set forth in this news release are
forward-looking statements that involve a number of risks and
uncertainties.

In addition to factors discussed above, the factors that could
cause actual results to differ materially include the following:
product demand and market acceptance, the timing and success of new
product introductions, business issues and growth within the
semiconductor manufacturing industry, competitive factors such as
rival etch and deposition technologies, and availability of key
supplier components at reasonable prices.

For a description of risks attendant to Trikon Technologies and
the semiconductor manufacturing industry, see the company's SEC
filings.
