FWIW: Here's a few links I have previously posted to various threads on my personal experience with Cablevision's system here on Long Island, NY.

I consistently get overall upload/download rates at around 600-700 mbps, well short of the rated speed of 1.5 mbps, but still faster than the more economical ADSL rates. Cablevision says that this is because the internet backbone/routers/individual sites are the current restriction. They also say that sharing bandwidth with others in my area will not restrict throughput, and my experience thus far (about 10 months) supports their claim. They say that because they have "fiber on the pole" across the street, they have the bandwidth to supply up to 1.5 mbps to each user once the rest of the internet catches up, plus the capability and capacity to upgrade my home to a fiber optic feed a la Bell South Atlanta trial.

Having read a lot on this issue, I believe that the bandwidth restrictions experienced by many ATHM/RR users is due to the fact that a significant portion of their distribution networks are limited by legacy systems. Cablevision doesn't seem to have the problem, because they didn't start offering cable modem service to an area until they had completely upgraded the distribution network to 100% 2-way fiber optic.

So my advice would be to ask your cable provider some penetrating Q's about the status of their supply/distribution network before you commit to a service. My experience with the CV tech guys is that they love to talk about their network, but maybe that's because they have built a state-of-the art system!

Hope this is useful and not too late to be of help.
