Sam's Town Celebrates Grand Opening of Its New 56-Lane AMF Showcase Bowling Center

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Sam's Town Hotel, Gambling Hall and
Bowling Center premiered its new 56-lane AMF Showcase Bowling Center to the
media today during the PWBA $200,000 Sam's Town Invitational tournament.
Guest of honor was Dick Weber, Professional Bowler's Association Hall of
Fame member. He challenged representatives of Boyd Gaming Corporation: Don
Snyder, President of Boyd Gaming; Joe Fuscaldo, Senior Vice President and
General Manager of Sam's Town; and Marianne Boyd Johnson, Vice President of
Boyd Gaming Corporation in a "bowl-off" to benefit M.A.S.H.Village. It is one
of the only shelters for abused and battered women and children in the greater
Las Vegas area. A check for $10,000 was presented to the charity.
The state-of-the-art showcase bowling center features AMF equipment
including 8800 Gold pinspotters, HPL lanes, Boss NT scoring, Xtreme Durabowl
lighted bumpers and recently introduced AMF furniture. In addition, the
facility features a completely redesigned and professionally staffed pro shop,
a McDonald's Express(R) and a full-service sports lounge with two big screen
television monitors.
AMF and Boyd Gaming Corporation entered into a five year agreement in June
of 1997, which would provide AMF with a showcase bowling center in the western
portion of the United States. As part of the agreement, Sam's Town's Bowling
Center will provide clients from the Pacific Rim an opportunity to view and
demonstrate the latest equipment offered by AMF. This agreement also gives
AMF the opportunity to participate in the $1,000,000 Sam's Town International
Eliminator held every January at Sam's Town Bowling Center with televised
finals on ESPN.
Sam's Town also hosts other major professional bowling events such as the
$200,000 Sam's Town Invitational Tournament held November 13 - 20, 1998 with
televised finals taped for ESPN broadcast on November 21, 1998; the PWBA
National Doubles Tournament scheduled for May 1999; the PBA Regional Players
and Senior Players Classic Tournament also slated for May 1999. Besides these
professional events, Sam's Town also hosts many national amateur tournaments
during the year. Sam's Town Bowling Center is recognized within the sport as
one of the most visible bowling centers in the world.
AMF is devoted exclusively to owning and managing bowling centers, as well
as manufacturing and marketing bowling products. It owns and operates more
than 410 bowling centers in 11 countries worldwide, staffs 21 direct sales
offices in 16 countries and maintains close relationships with
20 international distributors covering approximately 50 countries.
Sam's Town is located at 5111 Boulder Highway in Las Vegas. A Boyd Gaming
subsidiary, it has had seven major expansions since its opening in 1979.
Today, the casino attracts more casino players than any other casino in Las
Vegas. In addition to almost 3,000 slot machines and 42 table games
positions, Sam's Town has two floors of casino action including 100x odds on
craps and single deck 21.
Sam's Town features 650 hotel rooms, ten restaurants from casual to
continental, a huge Western Emporium retail store, two RV parks and 10 bars
and lounges -- many with live entertainment and dancing. A free laser light
and water show takes place in its Mystic Falls Park at 2:00, 6:00, 8:00 and
10:00 p.m. Sam's Town also provides a courtesy shuttle service to downtown
Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Strip.
Headquartered in Las Vegas, Boyd Gaming Corporation is a leading
diversified owner and operator of 11 casino entertainment properties located
in Nevada, Mississippi, Illinois and Louisiana. The Company recently entered
into an amended joint venture agreement with Mirage Resorts pursuant to which
the parties will develop and operate a $750 million casino resort on the
