The waiting-period legislation passed the General Assembly as House Bill 2570 and Senate Bill 1211. Provisions include:

• Physician must obtain informed written consent from a pregnant woman.

• At least 24 hours before the abortion, the woman must be provided with information that includes a medical explanation of an abortion and its alternatives.

• The woman must be offered a chance to review information about services available to assist her through pregnancy and about adoption services.

• The information available must include text and pictures explaining the probable characteristics of her fetus.

• Objective descriptions must be available on the method of abortion and the medical risks.

• Informed written consent is not required in a medical emergency.

• Failure to comply subjects the physician to a $2,500 civil fine.

• Takes effect Oct. 1. <snip>
