Win7/Win8x Users: If No Windows 10 Upgrade Icon Appears ...

... even if your system is up to date and your system is eligible for the upgrade. The icon was in the tray on my 32-bit Win8.1 (secondary) desktop but not there on my newer 64-bit Win 7 Home primary desktop for some reason. Martin Brinkmann of GHacks offered an automated potential fix for those that wanted to reserve an early distribution copy of Window 10:

See and read GHacks Article: 'How to display the Windows 10 upgrade icon if it is not visible' ghacks.net

"You may run a small batch script on Windows that does the fix semi-automatically".

The article has this link to the script file to fix the issue: dropbox.com

I turned off my Antivirus and ran the file as administrator. Step 3 fixed the issue for me. The icon appeared and I reserved the upgrade as I had done with the older system. It didn't fix the problem the first time I ran it (without turning off my Norton Internet Security software) but diabling Norton IS may have been necessary. Reserving the dowload eliminates the upgrade icon from the tray nand Microsoft sends an email confirmation that the dowload is reserved.
