CHICAGO, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Everen Securities Inc. said
Tuesday that it is reiterating a market perform rating for
Motorola Inc. after its own survey of cellular phone retailers
indicated sales of the company's digital handsets in the fourth
quarter may be disappointing.
--Posing as a potential buyer, company asked clerks in over
150 stores in 25 cities what phones they recommended and what
were most popular with customers.
--Five most frequently models mentioned were from Qualcomm
(NASDAQ:QCOM), Samsung Co. (KOREA:78020) and Nokia Ab Oy (HELS:NOKS.A).
Motorola's CDMA (code division multiple access) StarTac digital
phone was not recommended or mentioned as being popular with
consumers, Everen said.
