Meteor Creek ready to begin in-depth testing of gas well
By Nancy Willis
The Guardian
SOURIS — Meteor Creek Resources got good news from logging procedures conducted at its #1 exploratory well over the weekend, clearing the way for in-depth testing to begin.
Meteor Creek is the natural gas operation located in St. Charles that has investors and area residents anxiously awaiting results of what many hope will bring a change of economic fortune to the rural region.
"This logging step is a turning point and we are pleased with what we found," said drilling completion supervisor Jeff Wood.
Logging, in this case, was used to determine whether the cement poured into the space in between the original hole in the ground and the steel casing run into it at the end of the drilling process was a good job.
"If the log turned out to be inconclusive it would have been a real setback because it would have meant hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of remedial work to get it ready, and that would have meant outrageous delays," said Wood.
"But this log tells us the job was done well."
The next step is to run production tubing and perforating guns down into the cased hole.
"We are waiting for a specialist to come from Red Deer who is arriving late tonight," said Wood on Monday.
The specialist remained on alert in Alberta until the logs were conclusive.
"There is no use wasting money if logs didn't turn out right," said Wood.
He expects to see testing preparations start this afternoon.
"This is another hurdle we have crossed and it has turned out positive again," he said.
