L.L. Knickerbocker Announces U.S. Patent Office Issues New Patent to Insta-Heat, Inc.
All 25 Claims Made By Insta-Heat Included in New Patent
LAKE FOREST, Calif., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The L.L. Knickerbocker Co., Inc. (Nasdaq:KNIC) announced today that Insta-Heat, Inc., in which LLK owns a substantial equity investment interest, was issued a new patent with 25 claims by the U.S. Patent Office (Patent No. 5,626,022) for its self-heating container technology.
James Berntsen, Vice President of Insta-Heat, Inc., said ``This latest patent is based on our new plastic self-heating container. This one piece, two-compartment container is made up of six layers of plastic and is the only self-heating container of its kind in the world.''
Mr. Berntsen went on to say ``We are very pleased to have all 25 claims accepted by the U.S. Patent Office. This patent will help protect Insta- Heat's innovative technology and propel Insta-Heat, Inc. in achieving its goal of being the world's leader in self-heating container technology.''
In July 1996, LLK acquired a substantial equity interest in Insta-Heat, Inc. and Ontro, Inc. (formerly known as Self-Heating Container Corporation of California). Insta-Heat, Inc. is the owner of certain patents for the manufacture of commercially viable self-heating packaging and container products. Ontra, Inc. has the exclusive world-wide rights to manufacture, distribute and market the containers which self-heat food and beverages.
The L.L. Knickerbocker Co., Inc. markets a wide variety of branded collectibles, jewelry and accessories and consumer products. The Company's primary focus is to create and build Brands which can be marketed through a variety of channels, including national and international retail and direct response mail. In addition to its equity interest in Ontro, Inc. and Insta- Heat, Inc., the Company has a 38.3% equity interest in Pure Energy Corporation, the exclusive worldwide licensee to an alternative fuel developed at Princeton University.
