Following is a list of small caps re the % of their stock price (June23 close) that was represented by net cash (cash less all LTD)-----SVGI(32%)---ETEC(13%)---LRCX(1%)--KLIC(24%)--EGLS(52%)----CMOS(7%)---CYMI(neg16%)---COHU(21%)---SFAM(55%)---KNT(1%)-----PRIA(11%)----BRKS(53%)-----QKTN(25%)---ASYT(48%)---MTSN(50%)----IPEC(neg 11%)----ATRM(19%)----SMTL(0%)----CFMT(49%). One can then deduct the net cash from the stock price and compare the residual to 1999 estimated eps (the latter reduced by say 4%iat interest on the cash) to arrive at what the forward P/E on operations is. For eg, if ASYT was pessimistically expected to earn $1.20 in 1999, reduce that by 25c interest effect and divide the balance into the $6.50 of the stock price that is not represented by cash and gets a forward P/E of only 6.8x
