I'm transferring 2,000 shares between brokers.

Try a DTC transfer. It happens almost instantly as soon as the "old" broker gets around to it. If you fax them a letter, you might be able to get the shares moved in a couple of days. Be sure to check carefully with both brokers for process details. You will need the DTC number of the "new" broker.
