Compaq sees US$15 bln services revs by 2000 April 29, 1999 01:18 AM SINGAPORE, April 29 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp aims to more than double its revenue in services by the year 2002, a company executive said on Thursday.
Compaq services currently account for about US$7 billion of the company's annual revenue, said Peter Mercury, vice president and general manager of Compaq's Consumer Services.
"We will achieve US$15 billion in the year 2002... we think the service market will be roughly US$600 billion in 2002 and US$100 billion is accessible by Compaq," Mercury said at a news briefing.
"Our goal is to get US$15 billion of the US$100 billion accessible to us," he said.
Compaq opened its Regional Call Centre, Customer Services Head Office and Service Centre in Singapore on Thursday.
In 1998, Compaq services provided 12.2 percent of Compaq's global revenue, up from 1.9 percent in 1997 and two percent in 1996, Mercury said at the opening ceremony.
In the first quarter of 1999, it grew to more than 17 percent of the worldwide revenue.
"This clearly demonstrated that services will continue to grow as a revenue and profit engine in Compaq," Mercury said.
Compaq services include installation, fixing, help desks, system management, high availability and business critical services.
