What is the key issue? Short selling. Butler goes on to say he does not believe short selling of an ETF should be permitted.

"I am going to make a very straight-forward statement. I don’t think short-selling of any kind should be allowed in the shares of the SLV, nor in the shares of the two publicly-traded gold ETFs, GLD and IAU."

Before he says this he says. "Buyers of new shares could be issued those shares without new additional silver being deposited through the short selling of shares to the buyers of the new shares."

Duh! Please, please.

This probably works to scare the sheep. Or perhaps Butler really is not aware of how and why a P.M. Etf ends up with small premiums and discounts.

It is exactly the ability to sell short by authorized participants that reduces the premium of shares to physical silver.

Am I smarter than Butler? No. I can't figure out how to fleece the sheep by playing on their fears. If I could figure out how to get rich by keeping many convinced that they were being manipulated, I just might do so and quit posting.

But I am too dumb to figure out how to profit from scaring people. Enough others have done so, so my contribution will not be missed.
