Intel paranoid?

A little blurb from a BBS...

I posted
"Which would you rather have, Coppermine or K7?"

And a Intel technical staff quickly stepped in.

There are many websites and magazines that will offer performance comparisons
between our processors and those of other companies:
zdnet.com
computers.com
t101
pcworld.com

The performance data for the Pentium(R) III processors is posted at:
intel.com

The Pentium(R) III processor features the following:
Frequencies of 550MHz, 500MHz and 450MHz
Integrated L2 cache (512K)
70 new instructions, including Streaming SIMD (Single Instruction
Multiple Data) Extensions for enhanced application performance
Memory streaming architecture
Concurrent SIMD-FP architecture (No more state switching)
New media instructions
8 new 128 bit registers
IEEE-754 compliant mode for scientific/engineering calculations
FTZ (flush to zero) mode for applications that do not require IEEE
precision.
The processor serial number

Intel(R) support does not comment on the products from other companies, or offer
the kind of comparison data you are looking for. This is for a couple of
reasons. Companies that do so often appear biased, and it is actually an
illegal practice in some countries.

Additional posts will be removed.

Interesting that Intel points one to ZDNet.
