>>MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Caliper Technologies Corp. (Nasdaq: CALP - news) today announced the introduction of the AMS 90 SE, a high-performance version of its Automated Microfluidics System 90 (AMS 90). The AMS 90 SE automates lab-on-a-chip sample introduction from 96- and 384-well plates and works with Caliper's HT DNA 5000-SE30 LabChip® Assay Kit to perform DNA sizing and quantitation analysis at the rate of thirty seconds per sample, cutting the previous analysis time in half. Caliper will unveil the new system on Saturday at LabAutomation2002, an industry conference on emerging laboratory technology to be held January 26-30 in Palm Springs, California.

The AMS 90 SE addresses the needs of DNA analysis laboratories that have higher-throughput applications such as preparing DNA fragments for microarray spotting, and DNA clone library quality assessment. Unlike conventional (gel-based) methods of DNA fragment analysis, the AMS 90 SE offers exceptional sample-to-sample and run-to-run reproducibility, enabling researchers to compare data collected on different days without tedious and time-consuming efforts to normalize data to account for variations in experimental conditions. LabChip HT(TM) software presents DNA fragment separation data using on-screen electropherograms and gel-simulation displays, and documents DNA fragment sizing and quantitation data in direct digital format, simplifying and speeding up analysis, archiving and retrieval.

Caliper intends to introduce additional applications for the AMS 90 SE system later this year. According to Walter Ausserer, Ph.D., Director of Research Product Marketing at Caliper, ``The AMS 90 SE system is a versatile instrumentation platform which will bring the benefits of accurate, reproducible, and automated lab-on-a-chip analysis to a variety of nucleic acid and protein applications.''<<
