Sigh. You are very naive. If we are to maximize the potential of our economy, we absolutely need to harness the power of our government to partner with industry to set standards, clear the path of red tape, and hammer out global treaties that make our companies more competitive. To say that our government should stay out of all aspects of our economy is just very very naive. The oil industry was created through our government's direct involvement in hammering out a deal with King Saud. The Internet and all the wealth that created and continues to create for this country was invented by our government. Our government can be a very powerful force for improving our economy and creating new wealth creating industries. However, to do that we need leaders willing to use the levers of power to create a national vision and strategy for the biggest issues of our day, not leaders who sit in the White House or Capitol Hill and twiddle their thumbs.
