NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) - Brokerage firm Goldman Sachs said on Wednesday it cut its earnings per share view for Siebel Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:SEBL), saying the software firm had made cautious comments at various recent investor conferences.

Goldman said it lowered its 2002 earnings per share view to 40 cents a share from 45 cents and cut its 2003 outlook to 50 cents a share from 56 cents.

"Comments from Siebel management at various investor conferences have been cautious in tone, indicating that business this quarter is at least as difficult as Q1," analyst Rick Sherlund said in a research note to clients.

Speaking at the Bear Stearns investor conference on Tuesday, Siebel's Chief Financial Officer, Ken Goldman said the current second quarter looks as difficult as the first quarter.

Goldman -- which cut its estimates for 26 software companies last month -- said its new outlook for Siebel reflects software license revenue down about 20 percent from the first quarter.
