The XDSL (S or V) are all copper enhancements. SDSL operates at 1.5Mbps Duplex while VDSL is 13-52Mbps one way and 1.5Mbps outgoing. Cost optimization imposes severe restriction in distances for XDSL transmissions.

I realize this. The VDSL in question is referred to as SDMT, or Synchronous DMT, and operates at 52 Mbps downstream with the upstream you mention, or at 26Mbps, synchronously. The speed can be split up as you choose. To facilitate longer distances, I was told they'll use wireless from neighborhood node to the curb and copper to the house. There was another engineer at dinner, so I'll email him for a better explanation.

Stay tuned!
