The only areas mentioned in the article that have any plausible connection to our future economic well being are infrastructure and education.

Combine that with your "This country can not continue on the course set into motion by Reagan and which reached its epitome under Bush II. It will mean disaster.", and you might think that spending on these areas has been very tight, but it hasn't been, particularly for education. Education spending, both in total, or more narrowly considering the relatively small portion of it that is from federal funds, has been booming for generations, and grew faster than the norm under Bush II.
