Illinois Mayor Wants Obama to Settle $55K Outstanding Campaign Debt

They’re not blaming the President directly, just hoping he’ll lean on his political people at the DNC to pony up:

It was not immediately clear who was responsible for footing the bill that was racked up in the city when Obama announced that then-Sen. Joe Biden would be his running mate — the Democratic National Committee (DNC) or Obama’s political arm, Organizing for America (OFA).

Incidentally, OFA became part of the DNC after the election, so they are one and the same now.

The city paid for police and first responders to help secure the event. Obama’s campaign actually got a bill for $68,139, but $55,458 is still outstanding.

Springfield’s Communications Director Ernie Slottag told Fox News the city does not necessarily think the White House is responsible for the payment because Obama was not president at the time, but hopes he may be able to help resolve the matter.

So, all those folks that have been getting OFA solicitation letters asking for $3 now know where the money is going to go.
