jb, is it a "physics for somebody" text? look in a real text, for physicists. there is an easy one "thermodynamics" by Landau & Lifshitz, it has even equations in it.-g- the thing is VERY simple, 2nd low of th. referrs to "closed" and "finite" systems wiht dissipative processes. else is speculation (at best) and fantasy. "empirical" does imply "not general". joe
