Thought of you when I saw this article last night.

Well, you got that right. I'm on the city's side on this one. I just found out today that they've closed the sidewalk next to the Treasury Dept. The sidewalk? I wonder what the rationale could possibly be for that. Don't get me wrong. I think security measures are great. I just think that the security measures should make sense and that we should pay for them rather than go into debt. Silly me.

If there is an attack that comes from any vehicles that had been stopped previously, but that are no longer searched because "people objected" .....the people responsible for having those searches stopped, will by their signatures, agree and will be happy to pay for any damages and deaths occurred if any other attack occurs.

That's an interesting idea. You'd make an excellent regulator. I'll bet the consumer protection folks could use you. Or maybe the labor department. They all care deeply about making people feel comfy and don't seem to care at all about cost effectiveness.

As a practical matter, it would probably take the parties longer to go through yhour registration process than it would to have their cars searched. And registration would create a data base where the government would know what checkpoints we were at at any given time. And anyone whose car was used in a terrorist attack would probably be giving a phony name or skip town so they wouldn't be available to have damages collected from them so there would be no penalty or compensation.

But other than that... <G>
