I'm not paying attention to the random walk; that's why I keep saying that the poll is even. Gallup's latest poll of likely voters has Bush up by a couple of points; also even.

I agree with you about Democrat's confidence being perplexing. I think there is room for a Bush bounce if the Reps put on a serious convention where Bush et al talk both well and seriously about the WOT and Iraq. But I don't know if they are capable; most of the rhetoric I have heard from Bush has been pretty simpleminded and refused to notice or discuss setbacks as well as successes. If Bush gives a speech that is both great and serious about the issues I think there is definitely some room for a bounce.

And if this Swiftvet thing breaks into the media...well I certainly think Kerry would take a hit. And in this day of blogs, it's a lot harder to squash a story that is interesting and in public hands already.
