| The interesting thing is, that for many people who design websites or set up networks for others (I've done a bit of this for people from time to time), you often have access to their servers, to passwords, etc... and could quite easily look into or download things like server-based email files, or go into restricted areas of their website, etc... Or you can fiddle around with configurations and design access so that you can get back in whenever you feel like it. I'm often quite surprised at how little people know about how things like websites, networks, etc... work, but then, I also don't fault them for not realizing such things. In truth, if they knew all of this stuff, they would probably be designing their own websites or whatever. The best you can hope for is that most people who design systems, build websites, set up networks, etc.. are honorable. Unfortunately, human nature being as it apparently seems to be these days, everyone has to realize that there are many, many creepy people around who will, given even the slightest opportunity, invite themselves in to take a look around, download your files, etc... I suppose the worst part about all of this is that such people can use information from files to blackmail, extort money, favours, or even political decisions from them. All the more reason for all of us to realize just how dangerous rampant corruption is to democracy. |
