I have to agree with you Gustave, there certainly is more than just human rights issues behind Turkey's rejection. It's a shame too, Turkey's been holding the line all these years, keeping the the Bosporus open and letting the US stage air and nuclear forces there, right in the Russian backyard. They deserve better, for all their flaws.

The Kurds are a shameful matter as well. The great powers have been using the Kurds for most of this century in one struggle or another. Whether it be against the Ottomans, the Iranians, the Iraqis, whatever publicenemyflavoroftheday. They're hopes of a Kurdistan have been shamefully manipulated time and time again to make them of use. Kind of sentimental, but promises are promises. Not in politics, I fear.
