Closing the trade gap with China

HONG KONG - US Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez' main task during his current visit to China is to find ways to narrow the trade gap between the two countries, which is still growing. But Chinese officials and economists generally agree that the situation is unlikely to be significantly improved unless Washington is willing to ease its restrictions greatly on the export of high-tech products and technology transfers to China.
