In my view it just wasn't needed. The other thing is that (and lets be honest - both candidates are evasive with certain questions) the question that led to this remark had to do with whether Kerry or Bush believed people were born gay or decided to be gay. Bush responded with the only fair and human answer. He said "I don't know" and the fact is we really don't. Science has not proven one way or the other even though they're trying to find out. Kerry, OTOH, became wordy, dodged the question and then brought up Cheney's daughter. Whats up with that?
