that's a tangent, isn't it, kh?

No, not a tangent, at least not for me. I found it odd that you would think it more acceptable to be uncivil to non-veterans so I asked. I am fascinated by cultural divides so I am always curious about people's values when they differ inexplicably from my own.

Of course, I don't find it acceptable to be uncivil to anyone with the possible exception of incivility in response to extreme incivility. I don't imagine that you do, either. But if I were forced to choose which is less acceptable, veterans would not even occur to me. I think my standard would be a function of the vulnerability of the party. If anything, a veteran would typically be less vulnerable than average and could bear the incivility more easily.
