Limbaugh's greatest week ever
By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

Enjoying his best week of publicity ever, Rush Limbaugh has managed to place himself front-and-center again on the national political scene.

By Friday, Limbaugh had won the war of words with other Republican "leaders." They are obviously cowed by his popularity with millions of conservative Americans, as Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele found out to his profound regret this week.

By Friday, Limbaugh had President Barack Obama's henchmen on the retreat. The advisers who had thought it was such a good idea to attack Limbaugh and the GOP were suddenly reeling, wondering what that had wrought.

By Friday, Limbaugh was enjoying what will become a daily mocking of Obama for avoiding a radio debate with him -- a brilliant no-lose idea for Limbaugh because Obama likely won't take him up on the idea (but should).

By Friday, Limbaugh was basking in the national mainstream media attention that he openly mocks but secretly craves.

And he was brazenly inviting his listeners to get on Democratic committee Web sites, to say nice things about him.

All in all, not a bad week for a sharp-tongued, right-wing radio host.

If Limbaugh has any luck left, another GOP leader will criticize him over the weekend, then be forced to come crawling back for Limbaugh's nationally broadcast blessing next week.
