But at least those were part of our cultural heritage. Most St. John's students raised by moderately educated parents or school districts learned something about the Greek myths, the Middle Ages, and the like. And those values resonate in our values today -- heck, even you just quoted Aristotle as part of a discussion of contemporary mores, and it's been said that Plato is the foundation of a all modern western philosophy. None of that can be said about Eastern literature. I doubt more than a very few St. John's students come in with any familiarity of Chinese dynastic life and myths or the backgrounds of Chinese folk religions.

But there is certainly a curiosity about them that would, I assume, underlie the lobbying.

But I wonder whether there really are any tutors really capable of leading quality seminars in those works. Whether they will be evaluated on their merits, or critiqued by comparison with Western ideas and ideals.
