Hey Glenn, Bulldozer, Pat, et.al (not Etek). Been in a work warp, absent from SI. Hungry to get back to work here!
Subscribe to your thought, Glenn. As mariner posted a few days ago, JDS had been outstripping analysts' forecasts for at least the last four quarters, going back to last summer. Dr. Jozef runs a tight ship, viz. that SG&A barely budged last quarter despite the ramping up for the plant expansion. KK doesn't have that knack, and besides, old UNPH is still digesting its tri-continental acquisition spree. Who better to knock it into shape than the good Dr. Also, while SDLI may not be in the same league (Pat and others may demur), at the very least pump laser competition caps margins. It is my understanding that one of the areas that JDS is exploiting successfully is fiber gratings. As fiber networks get closer to metro deployment and optical switching (vs. optoelectronic--see Gilder GTR for July) draws more attention with ever-increasing DWDM deployment, gratings will assume more importance.
