It isn't only the little guys that make mistakes. Back in November, 1997, Compaq was, in believe, kicking the tires over at ASND. They apparently concluded that ASND was too disorganized for their taste so, instead, they bought Digital.

It probably worked out better for ASND, because LU clearly is more focused and adept on the networking side of things. But as the market opens on Monday, April 12th, with CPQ's earnings shortfall in the picture, someone at CPQ (perhaps even Alan Lutz, the networking whiz at CPQ who left for NN) might be wondering how different things could have turned out.
