I know poor families and single parents who live in what we might consider less than ideal conditions who are raising very balanced, healthy and loved children.

I'm sure that's true. They are lucky, as are we all. I wish them continued good fortune.

I would not judge them by my morals or standards and neither should you.

As long as the rest of us have to pick up the pieces for their irresponsibility if their luck fails, we're entitled to make judgments. I would not presume to establish a fixed set of standards. Only the prospective parent can judge, for example, if here own brothers can compensate for an absent father or if living in a state university town can compensate for inadequate savings. My problem is with those who think that "God will provide" or who don't think at all.
