Rating the Quiet Period IPOs - an actual Yahoo post worth reading.

by: cmgi_back_to_330 217 of 217
I have looked at the various measurements and ratios for the 8 stocks which are coming out of their quiet periods Monday and Tuesday. I have considered their price action. I even have considered what companies similar to them have done in recent weeks and months coming out of THEIR quiet periods.

HOWEVER, in this great auction we call supply and demand one thing comes through shining as the best measurement of all: buying interest.

How can we measure the market's interest in certain stocks before the end of their quiet periods?

As unscientific as it is ... and strictly from a retail investor perspective ... chat room message boards:

I was in ICGE and Red Hat recently. There were a lot of posts on those boards before the quiet periods ended for these two. The interest was already there ... and when the quiet periods ended, the price action and the advances were very, very strong.

SO ... in an effort to provide a fun and interesting evaluation of buying interest at the retail level ... and knowing that there has been no more incentive to post on one board over another from a financial basis ... and taking it a step further and looking at the top 3 message boards for measurement ... here is what we have based on the 8 IPOs from August which will end their quiet periods on Monday, September 13 and Tuesday, September 14:

Stock ....... Yahoo .... Raging Bull ... Motley Fool ... Total

LOOK ......... 1280 ....... 2556 ............ 39 ......... 3875
LIOX ........... N/A ....... 1734 ............ 07 ......... 1741
NTRO ......... 0620 ....... 0647 ............ 17 ......... 1284
MYPT ......... N/A ....... 0441 ............ 10 ......... 0451
HHNT ......... 0216 ....... 0145 ............ 00 ......... 0361
WINK ......... 0139 ....... 0121 ............ 21 ......... 0281
SSSW ......... 0081 ....... 0130 ............ 00 ......... 0211
AGIL ........... 0087 ....... 0051 ............ 00 ......... 0138

Again, the number of messages on ICGE and Red Hat just prior to the end of their quiet periods were high.

Just an observation.
