The problem isn't browser standards its browser non standards.

One reason that Microsoft is so loved is that they put stuff into their software which follows some of the standards as well as some not well documented standards (OK, they "forgot" to tell others about it) developed my Microsoft (oh I am so PC today)

So if you visit a site that was developed using Microsoft tools using a non-Microsoft web browser, some thing might not be interpreted properly because the web site is saying things to the browser in Microsoft-ese.
