I actually think the "primary system" and the media have brought us to this point.

If Jefferson had had to go through a long primary with this type of media the "consensual" sex with a slave would have come out and also his "paying a guy" to write nasty stuff about the President, John Adams, would have also come out, especially since Jefferson was Adam's Vice President at the time he was paying that guy to write nasty stuff about Adams.

I'd rather they went back to the "smoke filled rooms" scenario to pick candidates. I'm not kidding, I would. If they were trying to write the Constitution TODAY, they'd have to run every paragraph of it through focus groups and lobbyists and every interest group in the Country. It would have never come about. We ELECT people to "represent us", so why don't we let THEM pick the best candidates for President?
