San Diego's Wall Street Winners Lead Executive
Panel On Investor Relation Strategies for 2000

National Investor Relations Institute Hosts Seminar

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Top executives from QUALCOMM, Agouron and Gateway will headline this year's
National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) symposium, ''How Investor Relations Will Meet the Millennium.'' The annual
fund-raising event will be hosted by QUALCOMM at the San Diego Design Center from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday
September 8, 1999.

The title for the CEO/CFO panel is ''Whose Investor Relations Program Is This, Anyway?'' Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, chairman
and CEO of QUALCOMM, Peter Johnson, president and CEO of Agouron, and John Todd, chief financial officer of
Gateway, will explain how the vision and style of the senior management shapes the way companies communicate with
investors.

''We are honored to have such high caliber speakers for this year's event,'' said Susan E. Atkins, president of the San Diego
NIRI chapter. ''Over the past year, we have expanded our membership to include a broad spectrum of industries from
biotechnology, computers and telecommunications to golf and food service. We believe this symposium will provide practical,
timely and we hope entertaining ideas for successful investor relations programs. And, we hope to raise sufficient funds to
provide a meaningful scholarship to a San Diego student interested in studying investor relations at the college level.''

''Are you talkin' to me?'' is the second panel, and it will include Wall Street Analysts who will explain which investor relations
activities work and which ones do not work with Wall Street.

The cost of the symposium is $100 for San Diego NIRI members and $125 for non-members. For further information, contact
Claudia Jones at Neurocrine Biosciences, 858-658-7759.
