He has said that he, too, thinks it should be a right. By that I infer that he means it should be an entitlement in the US budget sense of the word but isn't a human right, as some claim. If that's the case, then I can understand it. The notion that it's a human right is what's beyond my ken. I assume you're using the term the way that Obama did.

I'll simply say that when you have cases where citizens die or lose everything thru illness or lack of insurance, the government should step in with a system preventing that.

If you think there should be an entitlement to health care, to what else should we have an entitlement? Should there be an entitlement to shelter, love, education, self esteem, two parents, tennis lessons, safety, TV reception, a computer? Why or why not? By what criteria do we determine whether or not something is a right or entitlement? I infer from the above that you think the criterion may be provision of protection against whatever might kill you or wipe you out financially? Is that correct?
