Hisense steps into 3G mobile phone market

QINGDAO- Hisense Group Corp. has
announced that it will concentrate its resources
on producing third-generation digital mobile
phones. The local government has supported
the project.

Recently, Hisense became an authorized
production factory by signing a contract with
Qualcomm on research and development of
CDMA knowledge and property rights. Hisense
will develop digital mobile phones based on 3G
1X multiple carrier-wave technologies.

Hou-jian Zhou, general manager of Hisense
Group Corp., said as the wireless telecom
market is growing at such a pace, Hisense is
always focusing on telecommunication
technologies, especially the development trend
of CDMA, and has established good
relationships with many leading suppliers in the
world.

At the same time, Hisense has invested $10
million on establishing the R&D and test center
that mainly focuses on 3G telecommunication
technology. During the past five years, Hisense
has successfully cooperated with Lucent to do
R&D, and has produced a large-scale,
program-controlled switcher. Now, the 3G
digital mobile phone has been listed as the key
product.

Chaz, It looks like they are developing the ability to produce their own 1X phones and infrastructure while doing R&D on their own TD-SCDMA technology for the future.
