Paul, >> As far as I can see they have no incentive to burn Marengi with next quarters results, but I will join you in burning him if Kayak isn't a smashing success despite next quaters results. <<
And "BURN" he will. You're dead on with KAYAK Paul (that's why I posted my "Oh Shit" post upthread, (when Eric posted the PR about them dropping the SOHO office, or whatnot).
KAYAK is, as I said also "INTEGRAL" to the success of this company. The new business that will (can) be generated by tapping the small business community, for an enterprise computing company like NOVELL, in "my mind" anyway, would be like grabbing the RETAIL market. You know, the way Microsoft has it by the b*lls!
Anyway, I think (I think...Hmmm...) the folk at Orem and Provo have finally gotten the message lound and clear. Let me quote you from a piece of correspondence from someone I know inside. (And this isn't a set-up.):
===================================================================== >> Recent postings on the board, especially the one from the Novell engineer who attended the "pep rally", have all tended to corroborate the stuff you know. Everybody at Novell, from Marengi down to the most junior BYU-trained engineer in Provo, now knows we were very close to "flatlining". I do feel a new sense of urgency, and a real desire to succeed - to wipe the smug grin off Bill Gates' face! (Especially if we can catch him while he isn't looking, while he is worrying about Netscape and Sun.) I was pleased to see you say, in 6065, "I believe NOW, they REALLY know they're screwed up. I didn't believe that before." I'm not sure that I believed that either, until a few weeks ago, but I do now. <<
======================================================================
Now if they don't, like you say Paul, their ASSES WILL BURN!
